The Community of Madrid receives a visit from delegations every four days to see its public transport network

They are national and international, have increased by 23% over the past year, and are interested in learning about regional projects. The facilities that arouse most interest are CITRAM, the interchanges and the Metro workshops in Canillejas. In the first quarter of the year, foreign commissions have already come from Norway, Mexico, India and the Philippines.
The Community of Madrid received an average of one visit every four days from national and international delegations to see its public transport network in 2024. There were 89 in total, an increase of 23% over 2023. Among these experts, the interest in the operation of the Metro de Madrid service, which transports 2.5 million passengers daily, stands out.
The United States, South Korea, Argentina, Uzbekistan and Colombia, among others, are countries that sent delegations of their experts to the Community of Madrid to learn in detail about aspects of public transport in Madrid, together with the measures applied to mobility for millions of daily users.
In the first quarter of this year, new foreign commissions from countries such as Norway, Mexico and India and 23 Spanish commissions have already arrived in the Community of Madrid with the same goal.
Thus, representatives of the Philippine Department of Transport have visited the Spanish capital to inquire about the public transport offer in the region, which takes into account the real needs and the responsibility to create a network that brings all the population centres closer together.
Specifically, this delegation visited Metro's central workshops in Canillejas and the Public Transport Innovation and Management Centre (Centro de Innovación y Gestión del Transporte Público, CITRAM) from where more than 20,000 cameras and 6,000 passenger information panels are monitored, as well as the exact location of the more than 6,000 vehicles that provide public service in the region.
Another of the key elements that arouse the interest of visitors are the interchanges, a pioneering infrastructure in the Community of Madrid that has served as a reference for other transport systems in both national and European cities. And finally, the metropolitan company's control post, a strategic centre from which the number of trains running daily is organised, stations are managed in real time, and both network surveillance and incident resolution are carried out.
