The Community of Madrid celebrates World Bicycle Day with free access to the Metro network for cyclists

""

Tomorrow, 3 June, is the commemoration of this anniversary and, for the second year running, the metropolitan company is running this initiative. It aims to encourage the combined use of these two modes of transport, promoting more sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility. Users who wish to take advantage of this measure must inform the station staff of their entry and comply with the regulations in force.

The Community of Madrid is commemorating World Bicycle Day, which will be celebrated tomorrow, Tuesday 3 June, by providing free access to all cyclists on the Metro network. This initiative, which is in its second edition after its premiere in 2024, aims to encourage the combined use of these two modes of transport, promoting more sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility.

To do so, users who wish to take advantage of this initiative must inform the station staff upon entry. As always, compliance with the current regulations is compulsory, available at www.metromadrid.es, which include aspects such as the maximum number of bicycles per train (two in the lead carriage and two in the tail carriage, except in those with spaces reserved for this purpose) and access conditions depending on the line and timetable.

It is currently possible to use this means of transport to access the entire network, without time restrictions, on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, as well as on business days on L8, 11, 12 and Metro Ligero 1. For other times, there are some stations with no restrictions and others that do not allow entry from Monday to Friday during peak hours (7.30 am to 9.30 am, 2 pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm).

On the other hand, cycling is not permitted inside the stations and bicycles may only be transported on moving walkways, escalators or lifts when occupancy permits and does not cause inconvenience to other passengers. The company also has bicycle racks at Rivas Futura, La Peseta, Arganzuela-Planetario, Nuevos Ministerios, Colonia Jardín, Puerta del Sur, Fuente de la Mora and Chamartín stations.
