Also, 86 vending machines have been replaced with state-of-the-art accessible units and will be expanded to 117.

The Community of Madrid has already installed 220 intelligent turnstiles in Metro de Madrid and plans to add another 185 to close the year with a total of 405 distributed throughout the stations of the public transport network. To date and with this number, the metropolitan company has already exceeded 50% of the first phase of the technological transformation plan for its stations with these state-of-the-art devices installed at 23 stops.

The new models take up less space, have a more intuitive interface and a display that informs users about ticket validation using graphics and text. They also offer LED lighting and audible warnings on the doors and on the floor, are more accessible and improve the way passengers are informed and the quality of customer service.

Until the end of the year, they are expected to continue to be installed, mainly on Line 6, taking advantage of the track superstructure works that have been underway since last May.

In addition to the access machines, the automatic public transport card (TTP) vending machines have also been refurbished. They are much more intuitive and efficient elements, designed to make it easier for tourists and non-regular customers to use the underground. Specifically, the network already has 86 such devices available at 22 stations, which will be expanded to 117 in this initial phase.

Metro de Madrid has a second phase ready, with the goal of extending the new Station 4.0 model to the entire network, with a further 268 new intelligent turnstiles and 145 ticket machines.

Both the new turnstiles and the vending machines have been the result of the research and work of professionals in the metropolitan company, who after a comprehensive analysis of the needs of the users have arrived at a final design patented at international level. The project for this new phase is co-financed by the European Union within the 2021-2027 ERDF Operational Plan of the Comunidad de Madrid.
