The Community of Madrid invests €53.6 million in the maintenance of Metro tracks to reinforce and guarantee safety and improve the reliability of train traffic. At its meeting this week, the Governing Council was informed of the award of the contract for the comprehensive maintenance of the track superstructure and drainage elements along the 300 kilometres of the underground network.

 The work is scheduled to begin in the next few months and will take four years. As on other occasions, in order not to affect users, the work will be carried out at night, without disrupting the usual service. The track superstructure is a key element for the movement of trains and its maintenance makes it possible to guarantee the safety levels and parameters for trips, as well as improving the reliability and durability of the track condition and increasing passenger comfort, quality and satisfaction. 

Infrastructure maintenance is one of the priorities in the planning of the metropolitan company's actions, as it is a determining factor in reducing the number of incidents and ensuring a good experience for the more than 715 million passengers who used the network in 2024. 

Through contracts such as this one, the Madrid underground aims to centralise the track maintenance operation bases, improving management, resource efficiency and facilitating the mobility of the brigades and vehicles involved in these manoeuvres. Thus, the planned work includes areas such as tunnels, auxiliary facilities or large structures in stations.
