Today, the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced the launch this coming Monday of a new free shuttle bus service that will directly connect Moncloa with Ciudad Universitaria, without intermediate stops, for as long as the renovation work on Line 6 of the Metro continues. This special operation will be available on weekdays, between 7 am and 9.30 pm, and will offer a frequency of five minutes at peak times and 10 minutes at off-peak times.

During her speech at the plenary session of the Madrid Assembly, the head of the regional government also announced that the operational capacity of the underground will be reinforced with the gradual incorporation of trains over the next few days. This way, the network will increase from 295 to 319 convoys on its 12 lines, thus recovering the figure of October 2024, despite the fact that L6 is not fully active.

The Community of Madrid reached its all-time record number of Metro users in September, with a total of 62.4 million trips made last month, despite the fact that Line 6 remains partially suspended. This is an increase of 4.41% compared to the same period in 2024, when 59.8 million trips were recorded. 

Since the start of the works on the eastern arch, between Legazpi and Moncloa, on 6 September, the regional government has established a free replacement bus service that runs along this section on the surface and is used by around 130,000 passengers every working day. 

The work currently underway is essential to develop the automation project that the regional government plans to complete in 2027, when the Circular Line will become the first in the entire network with automatic driving. This transformation will increase the capacity and frequency of service on this infrastructure, the most used by the people of Madrid with 116 million passengers in 2024. 

During September, the lines with the highest demand were lines 1, 10 and 3, precisely three of the lines that have received reinforcements from Metro in response to the increase in users. In addition, the west arc of L6, which is now operational, has recorded a total of 3.5 million trips. The stations with the highest traffic are Sol, Moncloa and Plaza de Castilla.
