The Region of Madrid has invested 17.3 million euros in works to improve the section of Metro Line 7B between San Fernando and Barrio del Puerto, in the municipality of Coslada. Specifically, the Governing Council has approved an update to the construction project contract, which has made it possible to optimise materials used and adjust work to real ground conditions, achieving a more efficient performance. 

During the work, carried out by the Directorate General for Infrastructures since June 2024, 600 tonnes of mortar have been used to waterproof and consolidate the tunnel walls. A further 10,000 tonnes of concrete, equivalent to the volume of three Olympic-size swimming pools, were used for surface reinforcement work. 

Technical studies have confirmed that the ground has a higher optimum strength than initially estimated and that the concrete of the platform and the counter-vault is in an excellent state of preservation. This exhaustive work has been essential to guarantee the correct operation of line 7B, allowing it to fully reopen next November with safety guarantees. 

As announced by Region of Madrid President Isabel Díaz Ayuso during the Debate on the State of the Region, full service recovery will benefit more than 120,000 passengers, connecting residents in San Fernando de Henares and Coslada with the capital and with the commuter train network. In recent years, the regional government has invested a total of more than 120 million euros in infrastructure refurbishment. 

Similarly, the regional administration has already initiated ex officio more than a hundred financial responsibility procedures for damage caused to various properties in the municipality of San Fernando as a result of work on the L7B tunnel; the Regional Ministry of Housing, Transport and Infrastructures has already compensated 80 of them with more than 11 million euros.
