The spookiest event of the year returns to Metro de Madrid with a new edition of Halloween on 30-31 October and 1-2 November. This time the initiative will take place at the Ópera station, which just celebrated its centenary on 21 October.

In addition to the change of location, there will be more surprises this year. Guests at the event will be gathered in the main hall of the station where a version of the best known song from The Phantom of the Opera —one of the protagonists of this edition— will begin to play.

A tenor and a soprano will perform the song while leading the participants to the Caños del Peral museum. An exclusive Fever Candlelight concert awaits them there with string quartet Parallel performing a medley of scary music, including songs from some of the most popular horror films in history.

World-renowned for bringing classical music to iconic city venues, this will be the first time the Candlelight concert series has held a show on the Madrid underground.

Attending the event requires a ticket made available to the public free of charge on 27 October on the museosmetromadrid.es website. In total, there will be 15 daily shows of about 15 minutes each, covering morning, afternoon and evening hours.

In addition to the show, anyone passing in front of the entrances to Ópera station will be able to take in the special decoration that will be displayed during this festivity with candles and a floral arch of black and orange roses, to create a theatrical and phantasmagorical atmosphere, so typical of this time of year.

This is not the first time that Metro de Madrid has celebrated Halloween with its users. On other occasions, the ghost station of Chamberí has been the chosen setting for the different initiatives to mark this festivity. In 2019 and 2021, this space was decorated with skeletons, pumpkins and spiders while a group of actors were in charge of scaring the visitors.

In 2022, the site was decorated like Dracula's castle while in 2023, a thematic tour was organised based on the last passenger who was trapped at Chamberí station on the day it closed its doors for good in 1966. Last year, 2024, the event focused on the Mexican Day of the Dead.

Ten metres below Plaza de Isabel II, the Ópera metro station houses the museum recreation of the historic Caños del Peral fountain. This is one of the free museums that Metro de Madrid has opened to the public on its premises, as is the case with the Nave de Motores de Pacífico or the Chamberí ghost station.

This fountain collected spring water next to the Arenal stream during the second half of the 16th century. In the museum you can also visit the canyon-shaped supply gallery and the local sewer, as well as the aqueduct that supplied water to the Royal Palace from the 17th century until almost the 20th century.
