Today, Councillor Rodrigo took part in the 12th edition of the Héroes de Metro initiative. The awards go to employees whose interventions were decisive in saving lives, preventing serious incidents and ensuring the safety of passengers. Among the actions recognised are rescues for falls on the tracks, medical assistance and the return of an envelope containing more than €1,000 to the National Police.

Today, the Community of Madrid has recognised the professionalism, hard work and commitment to service of 43 employees for their exemplary actions in the Metro network throughout 2025. This recognition was carried out within the framework of the Heroes of Metro initiative, which celebrates its 12th edition this year and with which the metropolitan company highlights decisive interventions at times of special risk.

On this occasion, 23 employees in stations, the Central Post and train drivers, 15 professionals from security companies, four National Police officers and a cleaning service employee, whose actions were decisive in saving lives, preventing incidents and protecting the safety of passengers, were acknowledged.

The Regional Minister for Housing, Transport and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, took part in the ceremony to honour to these employees and stressed that "thanks to their quick and efficient response, they have contributed to preserving the safety of users in emergency situations". He also underlined "their commitment and vocation for public service", pointing out that "their actions reflect the values that define Metro".

Among the actions recognised was that of a National Police officer who, outside working hours and accompanied by his four-year-old daughter, prevented a woman from throwing herself onto the track in Puerta del Ángel. A similar intervention was carried out by a cleaner at Sainz de Baranda station. The action of a sector manager who prevented a run over at Sevilla station by immediately ordering the train traffic to stop after detecting a person on the track who was entering the tunnel was also acknowledged.

Likewise, the quick reaction of a train driver who saved a passenger who fell onto the track at Núñez de Balboa station, making light signals until he managed to stop the train that was travelling on the opposite track, was also recognised. Particularly relevant were the cases of a sector manager who assisted a passenger who was run over between Sol and Ópera, staying with her until the emergency services arrived, and of a security inspector who performed resuscitation manoeuvres on a passenger in cardiorespiratory arrest in the Aviación Española hall.

Finally, the joint action of three employees of the Central Post, who together with station and security staff, prevented possible altercations between fans of the football teams Rayo Vallecano and Lech Poznań on 6 November, has been acknowledged. An employee who took custody of an envelope containing €1,252 found at Nuevos Ministerios station ensuring that it was handed over to the National Police after the owner could not be located was also honoured.

Metro de Madrid has been organising this event since 2014 to praise and give visibility to exemplary conduct such as this, which reflects the commitment, humanity and professionalism of the company's employees. These actions underline the public service vocation of those who work every day to make the underground a safer, more humane and reliable environment for the more than two and a half million passengers who use the network every day.
