The Community of Madrid will extend the opening of the Metro until 2:30 am on Saturday 6 June to facilitate the mobility of passengers during the Pope's visit
This increase will be applied to the entire underground network in the early hours of Saturday to Sunday. As part of the Special Mobility Plan, the metropolitan company will increase train frequency by up to 125% to speed up trips.
Today, the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced that the Metro will be open until 2:30 am from 6 to 7 June, in order to facilitate the mobility of passengers on the occasion of Pope Leo XIV's visit to the region.
The measure, announced by the head of the regional government at the informative meeting La España vertebrada, Comunidad de Madrid, organised by El Mundo, will be applied to the entire Madrid underground network and forms part of the Special Mobility Plan deployed by the regional government from 6 to 9 June.
As part of this operation, Metro will increase the frequency of trains on different lines and time slots by up to 125% during these days, with 111 additional trains being added to improve the public transport response capacity in view of the high number of people expected.
The plan will also include an increase in staff at stations, maintenance and security, more than 600 mobilised workers, as well as the extension of the Municipal Transport Company's service and a hundred more intercity buses to facilitate the mobility of visitors staying in other municipalities.
