The Community of Madrid will use the month of August to carry out track improvement and renewal works at several points across the Metro network. These measures, designed to improve safety, reliability and service quality, will need the temporary suspension of services on several sections of lines 6, 7 and 9B (TFM) during August, in addition to the section of line 10 between Nuevos Ministerios and Plaza de Castilla, which is currently undergoing works.

The first works to improve the track superstructure will take place between 25 July and 13 August on Line 9B (TFM), meaning that services will be suspended between Arganda del Rey and Rivas Vaciamadrid stations. On this section, work will be carried out to upgrade several elements of the railway infrastructure in order to improve the reliability and safety of the service. 

In addition, Moncloa station will also be closed, meaning that service on Line 6 between Arguelles and Ciudad Universitaria will be suspended from 1 August to 2 September. The project involves carrying out track renewal work and reinforcing the platforms to allow for the installation of doors, thereby enabling the line to be automated. Moncloa served as the terminus during the closures in 2025, which meant that work could not be carried out at this station.

Meanwhile, the Community of Madrid is continuing with the work to upgrade the signalling system on Metro Line 7 in order to improve its capacity and reliability. This will now be complemented by track renewal work, which will be carried out whilst the signalling works are underway. Service is therefore expected to be suspended on the section between Gregorio Marañon and Pitis stations from 2 to 28 August. The project is part of a broader plan for the comprehensive renovation of the signalling on line 7 between the Estadio Metropolitano and Pitis stations, with an investment of more than €33 million. In total, work will be undertaken on 20 kilometres of tunnel and 24 stations. This project is 40% co-financed under the Community of Madrid’s 2021–2027 ERDF Programme, within Policy Objective 2 and Specific Objective RSO2.8. Promote sustainable multimodal urban mobility as part of the transition to a net zero carbon economy.

It should also be noted that Cuzco station will remain closed until the end of August, whilst Line 10 is closed due to the comprehensive refurbishment of Santiago Bernabéu station. Consequently, the suspension of service on Line 10 has been extended, with the section between Nuevos Ministerios and Plaza de Castilla remaining out of service until 21 August. The works are being used as an opportunity to carry out waterproofing work on the infrastructure.

In all cases, the regional government will provide the public with free replacement bus services covering the affected route to ensure that Metro passengers can still travel. The date has been chosen in view of the lower number of passengers in that area during the summer months, with the goal of minimising the disruption caused by this type of work.
