Díaz Ayuso announces a flat fare of 1.5 euros for a single Metro ticket in Zone A from October
The President of the Community of Madrid explained this measure on the first day of the State of the Region Debate. This means that the cost will not be affected by the number of journeys made. The new metro ticket machines will feature a video-call-based remote assistance service.
The President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced today that the Community of Madrid will introduce a flat fare for single Metro tickets in Zone A, meaning that, from next October, all journeys within this area will cost €1.50, regardless of the number of stations travelled through.
She did so during the first day of the State of the Region Debate, held at the Madrid Assembly. Until now, the price of this ticket ranged from 1.50 to 2 euros, depending on the length of the journey and the stations used.
The regional president has also announced that the regional government will continue to improve passenger services by introducing a video-call support service on the new Metro ticket machines. Thanks to this system, users will be able to contact a specialist agent in real time to have their queries answered, receive personalised advice or make a purchase with remote assistance.
The scheme will initially be available on 209 units installed in more than 70 halls across the network and will be rolled out to a further 144 between September and next summer. This initiative forms part of the Estación 4.0 project, through which the Community of Madrid is modernising the underground’s ticketing machines with an investment of 9 million euros, financed by funds from the European Union’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
