Díaz Ayuso announces a smart platform to improve the distribution of goods in urban areas and will extend Metropaq to three further underground lines
The President of the Community of Madrid explained the measure during her address at the 2026 State of the Region Debate. The Logistics Agency will launch an app that will collate all the information on distribution across the region as a whole and make it easier for professionals and public authorities to manage it. Metro has transported more than 174,000 parcels in less than a year and has saved delivery vans from travelling more than 158,000 kilometres. This project by the metropolitan transport company is compatible with the usual service and does not affect the user experience.
The President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced today, during the first day of the State of the Region Debate, the creation of a smart platform aimed at the logistics sector to improve the delivery of goods in urban areas, and the extension of the Metropaq service to three further Metro lines.
The new tool, accessible from any device, will provide professionals and public authorities with real-time, geolocated information on parcel collection and drop-off points, smart lockers, loading and unloading zones, timetables, authorised vehicles and traffic restrictions, as well as other useful information such as proximity to shops and public transport links.
To this end, the Community of Madrid’s Logistics Agency will develop an app that will bring together all the information relating to the urban distribution of goods across the region’s various municipalities. Thanks to this project, the regional government will be able to centralise access to the various regulations, facilitate planning and promote measures that help to reduce surface traffic.
The chairwoman has also announced that Metro de Madrid will extend Metropaq to underground lines 4, 7 and 8 during the first half of 2027. This will broaden the scope of this internationally pioneering delivery initiative, which in less than a year has enabled the transport of more than 174,000 parcels and prevented delivery vans from travelling more than 158,000 kilometres on the road.
Metropaq currently operates simultaneously on Lines 12 and 3 during off-peak times, without disrupting the passenger experience, safety, or train frequencies. It is precisely at the 19 stations along the line connecting Moncloa and El Casar (Getafe) that smart lockers have been introduced in recent months, making it easier for network users to collect their packages. They are available every day during the underground’s normal operating hours.
The plan is to gradually extend the service to other lines and include new services, such as home delivery via mini-hubs or solutions for shops and businesses.
