The president outlined these projects during her address at the State of the Region Debate being held in the Assembly. Line 10 will be extended by 6.5 kilometres from Puerta del Sur to reach the south-western municipality, with at least six stations and an estimated investment of 1,050 million. Line 10 will be extended by 6.5 kilometres from Puerta del Sur to reach the south-western municipality, with at least six stations and an estimated investment of 1,050 million. There are also plans to extend Line 11 from La Fortuna to Poza del Agua in Leganés as part of the development of the future 33-kilometre-long major cross-city route. The regional government will also extend the L1 line to Las Tablas, with two new stations and a projected budget of 150 million.

The President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, today announced the largest expansion of the Metro de Madrid planned for the coming years, with 32 new kilometres of the network extending towards Las Tablas, Móstoles and Leganés. During her speech at the State of the Region Debate, the head of the regional government explained that these extensions will enable the underground network to be expanded into new areas and improve transport links for thousands of residents.

In the case of Móstoles, Line 10 will be extended from Puerta del Sur, with 6.5 kilometres of new track and at least six stations. This project will involve an estimated investment of 1.05 billion euros and will bring one of the main Metro lines – used by 300,000 passengers every day – to the municipality.

The extension will offer local residents new options for mobility and a more direct link to Madrid and the rest of the public transport network. The timetable provides for the studies and design work to be carried out between 2027 and 2029, whilst the construction work will take place between 2030 and 2034.

As for Leganés, the Directorate-General for Infrastructure, which reports to the Regional Ministry of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure, is set to examine the extension of Line 11 from La Fortuna to Poza del Agua, thereby making progress on the development of the future major diagonal route of the Madrid underground network. Work on the study is scheduled to begin this September following an amendment to the existing contract.

This project forms part of the transformation of Line 11 into one of the major backbone routes of the regional public transport network, which will link different municipalities and neighbourhoods and facilitate more direct journeys between different parts of the Community of Madrid.

EXTENSION OF LINE 1 TO LAS TABLAS

Díaz Ayuso has also announced the extension of Line 1 to Las Tablas, via a new tunnel approximately 1.5 kilometres long and up to two new stations. The regional government estimates that the investment will amount to around 150 million euros. The plan is to carry out the studies and draw up the project between 2027 and 2028, whilst the construction work would take place between 2030 and 2032.

In addition to these initiatives, Line 3 of Metro Ligero is being extended to Valenoso, in Boadilla del Monte, with a 1.5-kilometre double-track section, two above-ground stops and a terminus. The project will have a budget of 25 million euros for the construction of the infrastructure and will bring public transport to a growing area of the municipality.

To make this extension possible, the terms of the current concession agreement will need to be adapted to the new route and the increase in service, a process expected to take approximately one year.

Through these measures, the regional government is continuing to expand and modernise the Metro network to keep pace with the growth of urban developments and changes in mobility patterns. The aim is to make the underground more accessible to more people and to improve its connections with the capital and other parts of the Community of Madrid.
