To travel on Metro de Madrid you need a Public Transport Card (TTP) loaded with a valid ticket type for the journey you wish to make. More information about Card types and Tickets to travel with Metro.

Airport 

The Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport currently has four terminals. Metro de Madrid is conveniently accessible from any of them using the two stations located at the airport: Aeropuerto T1-T2-T3 Station and Aeropuerto T4 Station, both on L8. The opening hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 1:30 a.m.

To travel on Metro de Madrid, you must have a Public Transport Card (TTP) loaded with a valid ticket type for the journey you wish to make.

Passengers who purchase or possess a Multi card and who wish to travel by Metro from Aeropuerto T1-T2-T3 Station and Aeropuerto T4 Station or from any station on the network to either of these two stations must purchase a valid ticket for the journey they wish to make.

Single Tickets and Airport Extra charges are only valid on the date of purchase and are considered valid until the end of service, not the end of the calendar day. If you attempt to use it the day after it was purchased, the turnstile readers will not accept it because it has expired.

If you will be using Single Tickets and 10-Journey Tickets valid at airport stations, it is possible to have a maximum of:

  • 10 Single Tickets and 10 Airport Extra charges or
  • 2 of the same 10-Journey Tickets and 20 Airport Extra Charges

on the same Public Transport Card. This allows a group of people to travel on the same Public Transport Card on the sole condition that passengers must start and end the journey together.

There are Quick Ticket Machines in the two Metro stations located at the airport, where it is possible to purchase the Multi card along with a Single or 10-Journey Tickets (Metrobús or Combo Ticket) and the necessary Airport Extra Charges, quickly and expeditiously. This is a personal ticket, so each passenger must acquire their own ticket in order to travel 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 7 consecutive calendar days, starting at the time of the first validation. A Multi Public Transport Card must be purchased separately, although the price of the card is included in the ticket price when purchased together. With this ticket it is not necessary to load an extra charge.

Passengers between the ages of 4 and 11 can apply for the Children's Tourist Ticket with a 50% discount.

Tourist Tickets can be purchased at Metro ticket machines and at the Customer Service Offices located at the Aeropuerto T1-T2-T3 Station (before going down the escalators) and Aeropuerto T4 Station. These offices are open from Monday to Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

 

Personal Public Transport Card tickets:

Passengers who have a Personal Public Transport Card must have or acquire a valid ticket for the journey they wish to make. 

  • Single and 10-Journey Tickets: The Single and 10-Journey Tickets that can be loaded onto this card and are valid at the airport stations are the same as the ones that can be used with the Multi Public Transport Card. Similarly, when travelling on one of these tickets you will need to purchase an Airport Extra Charge. Single Tickets and Airport Extra Charges are valid on the day of purchase only. 
  • Tourist Tickets: cannot be loaded onto this card; a Multi Card must be purchased separately, although the price of the card is included in the ticket price when purchased together.
  • Season Tickets: it is also possible to travel with this type of ticket.
