In accordance with Royal Decree-Law 9/2024 of 23 December, from 1 January to 30 June 2025, inclusive, a 50% reduction (*) continues to apply to 10-trip tickets and a 60% reduction to the 30-day travel pass.

Single tickets and Tourist tickets are excluded from this measure.

A 30% discount applies to the Blue Card.

(*) Discounts financed by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, the Community of Madrid and the other administrations belonging to the Madrid Regional Transport Consortium.

General terms and conditions

To travel on Metro de Madrid you need one of the Public Transport Cards available with a valid ticket for your trip topped up.

Before starting their trip, all passengers are required to validate their trip at the ticket machines located at the entrance of the stations. Children under 4 years old can travel without a ticket.

Valid tickets for Metro can be topped up at the ticket machines in the stations (except for the Annual Pass). You can also check the ticket balance using these machines.

The ticket machines at Metro stations report the number of trips available on the Single and 10-trip tickets at the time of validation. In the case of the Tourist Card and 30-day passes, it informs of the date until which it is valid.

The Madrid Regional Transport Consortium has developed the Public Transport Card app to check the available balance of each topped up ticket. More information.

CHILDREN UNDER 4 YEARS OF AGE DO NOT NEED A TICKET.

They can be topped up on both the Personal Public Transport Card and the Multi Card.

The Single ticket, once topped up on any card, needs to be used on the day of purchase. If an attempt is made to use a Single ticket the day after it was purchased, the turnstiles will not allow passage because it has expired. The Single ticket topped up from 12 midnight until the end of the service is also valid during the following day until the end of the service. A Public Transport Card can be used for a maximum of 10 trips on the same single ticket, and the purchase can be made in a single operation or in several operations.

For the 10-trip ticket, the Public Transport Card admits up to two top-ups and a maximum of 20 trips of the same type of ticket. For example, it is possible to have 20 trips of a 10-trip MetroSur ticket and 20 trips of a Metrobús ticket on the same card. What is not possible is to have 30 trips of a 10-trip MetroSur ticket on the same card. The top-up of two 10 Trips tickets can be done in a single purchase transaction or through subsequent top-ups. A maximum of 10 trips must be left on the card before the ticket can be topped up again.

In both cases, as many consecutive validations can be made as passengers use the service with the same card, on the sole condition that the passengers start and end the trip together.

Airport Supplement
imagen tarjetas check

Passengers holding a Single or 10-trip ticket valid in zone A (Single Zone A and ML1, Single Combined, 10-trip Metrobus and 10-trip Combined) and who wish to enter or exit at the Aeropuerto T1-T2-T3 or Aeropuerto T4 Metro stations, are also required to have the Airport supplement. If the trip is made with a 30-day Pass, Annual Pass or Tourist ticket, this supplement is not required.

The airport supplement, like the single ticket, once topped up on any card, must be used on the day of purchase. If you try to use them the day after they are acquired, the validators will not let you through because they are out of date.

Airport Supplements can be topped up in conjunction with Single or 10-trip tickets that are valid at these stations (Single Zone A and ML1, Single Combined, 10-trip Metrobus and 10-trip Combined) or can also be topped up at a later date. The maximum number of Airport Supplements that can be purchased is the number of available trips on the Single or 10-trip ticket they are linked to.

The 30-day Pass can only be topped up on the Personal Public Transport Card. It is not possible to top up this ticket on the Multi card.

Depending on the profile of the Personal TTP, which is determined by the age of the card holder, the passenger may be able to top up a Youth 30-day pass, a Normal 30-day pass or a +65 Transport Pass. The user has 10 days to start using it from the top-up. After this period, the discount of validity days begins, even if it has not been used.

Only one type of 30-day pass is available on a card. Thus, for example, it is not possible to have a Zone A and a Zone B1 pass. It is possible to have two top-ups of the same pass, initial top-up and subsequent top-up. The subsequent one can only be carried out if the initial one has already been used.

The 30-day pass is valid for the zone stated on the ticket and all the inner zones, i.e. a B3 is valid for A, B1, B2 and B3.

The 30-day inter-zone pass is valid for the zones between those stated on the ticket. For example, a B2-C1 is valid for zones B2, B3 and C1.

Users with a Personal TTP with a +65 profile may also top-up the 30-day E1, 30-day E2 or 30-day inter-zone pass containing the E1 and/or E2 zones, applying the same fares as a Personal TTP with a normal profile.

In addition to Metro machines, this ticket can be topped up at tobacconists and other authorised points, as well as at Renfe-Cercanías stations.

Annual pass

Suspension of the sale of annual passes:

The Board of Directors of the Regional Transport Consortium, at its meeting held on 28 December 2023, agreed to continue with the suspension of the sale of individual annual passes and to maintain the sale to legal entities (annual pass for companies). For these, the same discount as in 2023 shall apply.

You can continue to use your personal public transport card to top it up with 30-day passes or 10-trip tickets (Metrobus, Bonobús, etc.).

Zone T includes the entire geographical coverage of the Transport Season Ticket, up to zone E2.

Validity

Tickets are valid for the calendar days specified on each type of voucher from the date of first use (it does not need to coincide with the date of purchase). The validity shall be extended on existing night services until 5 am on the last valid day.

Tickets that are valid for zone A may be used on:

  • Metro, on all lines, within this area. (You are not required to pay the Airport Supplement fare).
  • E.M.T., on all its bus lines, except the express line to the airport.
  • RENFE*, for the Cercanías stations included in this area.

  • RENFE, throughout the Cercanías network.
  • Metro Ligero ML2, ML3 and ML4.

(*) Tourist tickets are not valid on RENFE Operadora Regional Services.

All of the above, with the exceptions stated from time to time by the Madrid Regional Transport Consortium.

Map of fare zones

The Tourist ticket option can only be topped up on the Multi card and it is not possible to top up more tickets onto this card until its validity has expired. It is a personal ticket, so that each passenger is required to acquire their own ticket in order to travel and is valid for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 7 consecutive calendar days, with the validity days starting to be deducted from the moment the first validation takes place. In the case of cards purchased together with a Tourist ticket, the price of the card is included in the sale price of the Tourist ticket.

Only one type of Tourist ticket is possible on a card. For example, it is not possible to have a 3-day Tourist Zone A ticket and a 4-day Tourist Zone A ticket. It is possible to have two top-ups of the same ticket, initial top-up and subsequent top-up. The subsequent one can only be carried out if the initial one has already been used.

Passengers between the ages of 4 and 11 can carry the Children's Tourist Pass, with a 50% discount.

This ticket can be topped up at Metro machines, tobacconists and other authorised points, as well as at Renfe-Cercanías stations.
